This graded AU53 1838 Full Sovereign holds significant historical importance as it marks the inaugural year of Queen Victoria’s coinage.
This coin features the “Young Head” portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse, designed by William Wyon, and a crowned shield of arms on the reverse.
In terms of mintage, approximately 2,718,000 of these coins were produced in 1838. However, due to circulation and the passage of time, examples in higher grades have become scarce.
A coin graded AU53 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) indicates “About Uncirculated” condition, with slight wear on the highest points but retaining much of its original luster.
